ARTIST'S STATEMENT
As a child, the last pages of my school notebooks were an outlet for my inner thoughts. While sermons filled the air, I scribbled words and drawings, trying to block the voices that spoke of sin and hell. Today, those scribbles are no longer confined to hidden notebooks but are transformed into paintings that share my story. My art is my diary, and each piece is a deep excavation of memory and trauma. These thoughts surface in Spanish, my first language, and in English, reflecting a life lived between cultures, haunted by echoes from both. Like I did when I was a child, I write my thoughts on paper, arrange objects such as magnets or dry-erase boards, and paint them from life. By depicting them as life-sized, I aim to preserve a raw and organic representation that feels immediate and intimate, creating the effect of“looking at the actual thing.

Bouquet
Group Show
Exhibition on View: Tuesday, March 11–Saturday, March 15
Reception: Wednesday, March 12, 4 PM–6 PM
ARTISTS' STATEMENT
Bouquet reflects the charm and chemistry of separate flowers coexisting within a confined space, presenting themselves uniquely in bloom while simultaneously catalyzing each other’s individual appeal in unity. Likewise, Bouquet is a collaboration between Cliff Cheon, Micah Coble, Diana Escamilla, Roger Garcia, Grace Mallawong, Casey Savadkohi, and Diana Vallin as a presentation of seven distinct identities in juxtaposition with each other. As a collective, each member explores how identity is created and why; each work is an expression of the construction of self and the processes and experiences informing those constructions. Through these processes, the seven individuals have bloomed and come to acknowledge and embrace an interworking amongst nature, nurture, and the choices that guide their sense of who they are.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Myths, fairytales, and fantasies are popular themes of storytelling across the globe–growing up listening to different Chinese mythological tales and surrounded by friends engrossed in Western fictions of wizardry and the supernatural, I am drawn to these narratives portrayed in modern media. In a specific approach, focusing on well-known fantastical characters and creatures fromboth Eastern and Western cultures, my exhibition addresses this phenomenon and utilizes 2D and 3D applications to explore the blend of traditional imaginative storytelling with modern fantasy. The end results are fusions of my own artistic interpretations and of the entertainment media.
